(07/01/08 16:08) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	Tags : None Hi I know there are a few video experts here on the forum - some responsible for the great DVDs on brown tracker... so I'm asking for a recommendation. I'm looking to buy an HD video camera for personal and semi-commercial use... I have a SD Sony TRV-900 DV cam and it has been a work horse - looking for something as reliable, with great image quality, and doesn't totally make you look like you're in a TV production crew when filming the kids. I think I want to stick with mini-DV media format... I like having a tape at the end - any opinions on that are welcome too. Thanks for any input.

(07/01/08 18:05) Wastin' Pigs is Still Radical Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	I have two Sony HD cams, one for home and one for work: HVRZ1U: HDR HC3 Both work wonderfully, the HVRZ1U is perfect for my job (traveling videographer) since it's so lightweight and compact yet packs quite a punch. It's on the small side, but I still get much better images from people in my crew with much bigger, more expensive cameras. The HDR HC3 is just for pulling out around the house or at parties, I shoot everything in HD and down convert later if necessary. No complaints on either camera. The Z1U was around 5K and the HC3 was $800

Will you be shooting concerts, and, if so, how often? The Canon XH-A1 is an amazing piece of gear and will run you $2600-$2700 used on Ebay. It's definitely worth the money - in my opinion, it completely destroys everything else in this price range. You will not be disappointed if you pick one up. I agree with the person who advised you to stay away from Hard Drive cameras, unreliability is expected with them. They have the potential to fail on a massive scale in a concert situation, depending on your proximity to the mains. Also, having your footage archived on tape is priceless. The Canon HV20 is a decent sub-$1000 camera - I have seen people take footage from this camera, alter it a bit in post-production and produce an image that is difficult to discern from the XH-A1. It's not going to perform as well in low light situations as the XH does, and it only has a one-chip sensor, but it still is a very capable and somewhat flexible camera. - kobi. liveween.com
