The The - Soul Mining Remastered Edition
For me, Matt Johnson never made a better record than this. Genuinely not a duff track in sight. Johnson's anger had yet to spill out and on this album is generally internalised, which makes it all the more powerful. Its a great, intelligent pop record with fantastic arrangements and production. There are also several guest turns from Jules Holland, Zeke from Orange Juice and Thomar Leer, among others.
This CD remastered edition sounds great, but alas, there are no extra tracks. Where are the 12" mixes of "Uncertain Smile" and "This is The Day"?
I listen to this and I am transported back to 1983, where I was 18 and experiencing some fairly intense emotions of my own. There's not many who can express those emotions as articulately or as accessibly as this though. A great, great record.
