Most that do write their own material will usually have sets that are mostly other people's songs with some originals thrown in. Some DJs are notably better than others at the seemingly simple task of "playing one song after or along with another". Go to some raves and actually pay attention if you don't believe me. On the other hand, my friend who was a DJ at a local bar would just play whatever the club hits were at the time and get shitfaced. He used to play Juicy by Notorious B.I.G. whenever I'd come in. I appreciated that. Made me feel like a big shot. He got fired for passing out at his post one too many times. Being a DJ is a good way to meet girls if you can't play an instrument.
